Launched in 2002, Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (ECUREI) is a unique Degree awarding Institution for higher learning specialized in Medical Imaging and Biomedical Engineering training. It is recognized and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) as well as the Ministry of Education and Sports under the category of “Other Degree Awarding Institutions”. ECUREI also offers patient care services through management of the Mengo Hospital Radiology Department and a Medical facility Ernest Cook Health Services located at Bulenga.
ECUREI is named after Dr. Ernest Cook who came to Uganda in 1907 and installed the first X-ray machine at Mengo Hospital in 1910.
Dr. Ernest Cook was a nephew of Sir Albert Cook who introduced the first western Medicine Hospital at Mengo in Uganda and East African region.
