The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

This course provides a general overview and historical development of massage therapy. Introduces students to the benefits of massage therapy and its relationship to our current health care system, alternative health care systems and healing practices from other cultures.

Target group

This course is open to paramedics, other healthcare professionals and those with minimum principle pass in Biology at UCE.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, participants will be able: –

  1. Perform a thorough structural assessment, including a postural standing assessment, structural analysis/body-Reading.
  2. Engage the client in a methodical, respectful, insightful consultation/intake within medical ethics approaches.
  3. Competently use functional assessments including muscle testing, active and passive range of motion.
  4. To use palpation for tissue assessment as well as therapy.
  5. Understand and treatment and their effects.
  6. Record clear, complete and useful medical forms. Use the SOAP note model efficiently.
  7. Measure the effectiveness of their treatment.

  • Basic anatomy, physiology and kinesiology for massage (20hrs)
    • Musculoskeletal and neural systems
    • Integumentary and digestive systems
    • Circulatory system
  • Medical ethics and business (10hrs)
  • Pathology (18)
  • Sanitary and Safety Practices (7hrs)
  • Massage & Bodywork, Assessment (10hrs)
  • Practice and Techniques (30hrs)
  • Practical Requirements (7hrs)
