So who is Arembe Anthony ?
I'm a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer who works with a team in a maintenance department dealing with static water plants and equipment like pumps, generators, motors. chemical dosers, blowers to mention but a few
What is a typical day like for a Mechanical Maintenance engineer at National Water
Briefly, the day involves scheduling works to be done and carrying out those scheduled works in time. Punctuality each day is very key
What particular skills do you bring to your workplace ?
I bring to the workplace troubleshooting skill which is the ability to easily detect a fault / problem with a system them propose possible solutions.
Work scheduling and team leadership skills are other skills i bring to the table at my place of work
Why did you choose that career path?
I had a passion for engineering
What's cool about your job?
The ability to learn new things daily and travelling
Any Challenges ?
Limited logistics and red tape tend to slow down operations
How did you get your current job ?
I was first a trainee before being fully recruited
What subjects did you take in school and how have they influenced your career path ?
Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics these were relevant especially Mathematics and Physics because engineering work involves calculations and understanding of basic physics principles
What is your Education to date?
I have a Bachelors in Automotive and Power engineering from Kyambogo University
What aspects of your Education System have proven most important for your job?
I learnt team work, research and the ability to teach myself through my education journey as well as getting involved in co-curricular activities
What trends are you seeing in Mechanical Engineering ie what is the future like for the field ?
Predictive maintenance is the way to go and that's to be done digitally using equipment that require basic and advanced electronic knowledge
Which key people influenced your career direction ?
Was greatly influenced by my mother who also works at the same organization though not in engineering
What is your dream job?
Being a Director or Managing Director
As a student, how did you cope up with the pressure to succeed / excel in class?
Worked smart more than worked hard .I also sought help hence left no stone unturned
What advise would you give someone considering this job?
If it's your passion go for it
What kind of work experience would provide a good background for this position?
Experience in technical work
