The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

This Bachelor of Information Technology Degree Programme provides a pool of IT professionals that are much needed in today’s IT industry. The curriculum of this programme is designed with emphasis on emerging trends and currently dominant computer technologies. Students will be shown how IT can be harvested to boost the efficiency of a person, a group of people, an organization, an industry and a region despite its economic placement and activity. This programme also provides an avenue to those already engaged in the IT-sector without formal degree qualifications in IT to obtain one.

Course Objectives

The Bachelor of Information Technology Degree Programme will:

  1. Develop professionals with theoretical and practical skills in the Information
    Technology (IT) sector.
  2. Address the increasing demand for ICT training and professionals.
  3. Strengthen capacity and institutional building in IT discipline in tertiary institutions, private and public sectors.
  4. Create new ICT services by enabling society to create new jobs. e) Form a foundation for research in ICT applications.
  5. Provide ICT solutions and professionals in the Rwenzori region, Uganda and
    Africa at large.

Course Entry Requirements

Admission Requirements

To be admitted for a course leading to the award of Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree, a candidate must satisfy the general minimum entrance requirements of Mountains of the Moon University. In addition, the following regulations shall hold for the BIT degree.

Direct Entry

This is for fresh students from A-level: 

  • At least two principal passes in any subjects at the same sitting in Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
  •  A candidate must have obtained at least five passes at O level.

Diploma Holders or Equivalent

  • Applicants shall posses at least a second class (lower division) diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Studies, Information Technology, Statistics or any other diploma with Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Technology as one of the subjects from Mountains of the Moon University or any other recognized Institution.
  • Candidates, who scored a pass diploma with a working experience of at least two years in IT a relevant field could be considered.
