The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

The Bachelor of Science in Population Studies is a three year Day and Evening Programme. It main Objectives are to impact population and development concepts and develop theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills in population, health and socio-economic fields.

At the end of the programme students are expected to be able to know and use population variable, how to collect and analyze population data and apply them to explain social, economic and health dynamics.

The course consists of lectures,tutorials,practical and individual research projects

Objectives

The overall objective of Bachelor of Science (Population Studies) programme is to increase the number of professionals in the field of population studies in order to meet the current and future demand of government,parastals,non-government organizations and private sector

The Specific Objectives of the programme are

  • To create graduates in Population Studies
  • To satisfy the current and future demand for population specialists in government bodies, parastatals, non-government agencies and private sector
  • To generate Income for the running and sustenance of the Department of Population Studies, ISAE and University
  • To expand the opportunities and choice of application for admission to Makerere University
  • The Interdisciplinary Degree will give graduates wider knowledge and more skills in handling developmental issues in the country
