The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

The development of this curriculum started with a survey of the world of work, which included employers and graduates of technical certificate courses. A report from the survey culminated into the development of a Professional Profile, which includes all jobs and tasks that the graduates of Electrical installation systems and maintenance. This led to the development of all modules in this curriculum.

This curriculum is updated with current labour market demands and it is learner-centred and competence-based. It focuses on core tasks and assignments. It begins with a preparatory assignment and each academic year involves execution of a real life project that makes the technician competent in the trade. It aims at making Technical and Vocational Institutions the centre of excellence for technical education and skills development in the region, which will result into greater development and industrialisation of the country

Course Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission, a candidate must fulfill the minimum national entry requirements for a Diploma admission which are one principal pass and two subsidiaries at A level of the key subject obtained from the same sitting or it equivalence and a minimum of 5 passes at O level.

Admission to the program is categorized as below.

Direct entry

A candidate is supposed to have sat for UCE examinations and obtained at least five passes or its equivalence and obtained a certificate in it in.

He/she is  supposed to have sat for UACE examinations and obtained at least one Principles pass and two subsidiary passes of the Key Subjects at the same sitting or its equivalence

Upgrading from Certificate

A candidate must be a holder of a certificate in any relevant field of study obtained from a nationally recognized institution.

Where Graduates Work

The teaching methodologies developed in this if implemented effectively, should be able to produce Electrical craftsmen who are able to:

i) program PLCS and carry out electrical installation.

ii) design, draw and interpret electrical circuits and drawings.

iii) repair and maintain electrical and electronic appliances/ equipment.

iv) erect, install and maintain transmission and distribution power lines.

v) install and maintain a solar PV system.

vi) initiate and manage small business enterprises
