The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

Background

The Bachelor of Social work and Social administration aims at producing graduates that are trained in both local and global issues. This however cannot be achieved without a sound knowledge of development aspects to address the problems of communities that are found in Uganda. The degree in social work studies probes into the problem of communities looks at the global environment and provides thoughtful solutions for sustainable development.

The Bachelors degree in Social work and Social administration is a multidisciplinary program that borrows widely from the economic, social, political, environment and cultural backgrounds, so as to meet the current and future needs of Ugandan in particular, and the world at large. Graduates of BA Arts degree in Social Work and Social Administration are expected to obtain placements in government, development organizations either internationally or in Uganda in the private sector.

Rational for the course

Today there is very few skilled manpower especially at graduate levels in Social Work and Social Administration. The students of this course will be provided with skills, knowledge and the right attitudes that will enable them to contribute to the social, political and economic transformation of the disadvantaged communities in Uganda and the outside world.

Course Objectives

  • To enable students appreciate the basic concepts and contextual issues in social work practice.
  • To equip students with skills of contributing to development in their own communities.
  • To develop the knowledge and skills of social work interventions for successful execution of sustainable Social development.
  • Impart students with the required skills to competently apply frameworks for social welfare and social policy.

NOTE:
The Social Work and Social Administration Degree course will take three years based on a semester system.

Course Entry Requirements

At least five (5) passes at “O” level (UCE) or its equivalent and two relevant principle passes at “A” level (UACE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.

A post “O” level diploma or certificate with at least two years relevant experience in the desired field.
