The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

Introduction

The Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) Degree Programme is a three year fulltime degree programme that targets prospective students. It was developed with intent to beef up the Science programs in the University. It was also designed as a subsequent program to teach students who had previously graduated at Diploma level in Computer Science and the related fields within and out of Ndejje University and wanted to upgrade to a degree.
The majority of graduates from the BCS Degree Programme are expected to take up positions such as Discrete Mathematics, Linear Programming, Object Oriented Programming, Network Security, Artificial Intelligence, and Cryptography Programmers among others. The Bachelor of Computer Science Degree Programme is offered to satisfy the increasing demand for Computer Scientists in both the private and public sectors.
It also provides an avenue to those already engaged in the computing and ICT sector without a degree qualification in of Computer Science to enhance their knowledge and skills and obtain formal qualifications.

Target group

The programme targets two categories of people, namely A’ level certificate holders and Diploma holders in relevant programmes.

Nature of the Programme

This course has three programmes i.e Day, Evening and Weekend. It should be noted that day programme is at Main Campus while evening and weekend programmes are at Kampala Campus and it is both University and private sponsored.

Objectives

The BCS Degree will allow students to: -

  • To apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline
  • To analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution
  • To design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs
  • To function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal
  • An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  • To analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society
  • To use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice
  • To apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices.
  • An ability to apply design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity.

Course Entry Requirements

At least five (5) passes at “O” level (UCE) or its equivalent and two relevant principle passes at “A” level (UACE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.

A post “O” level diploma or certificate with at least two years relevant experience in the desired field.
