Program Objectives
Program objectives are broadly stated goals pertaining to career and professional accomplishments desired of students years after graduation. The following objectives have been identified as the program’s goals for successful student achievement that will satisfy constituents’ needs and fulfill the program’s mission.
- Technical knowledge –Graduates possess the fundamentals in electrical engineering necessary to succeed in graduate school and /or be productive engineers in industry or government.
- Communication skills –Graduates can articulate their ideas clearly and effectively to follow engineers, employers, the engineering community and the general public.
- Creativity – Graduates can challenge traditional thinking and invent new approaches to solving technological problems.
- Professionalism – Graduates possess the skills needed to fulfill their professional duties and responsibilities in teamwork/collegiality, ethics, technical leadership, business acumen and lifelong learning.
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes are the specific skills and knowledge that our students are expected to have obtained at the time of their graduation from the program. Since these learning outcomes involve specific knowledge and skills sets, they are evaluated at many levels throughout our program on relatively short time scales. This continuous monitoring and improvement of the program’s performance on the learning outcomes will ensure that the program objectives can ultimately be achieved.
- Foundation – Graduates can analyze and solve problems in the foundation areas of electrical engineering including circuits, signals, math, physics and computers.
- Laboratory –Graduates can formulate (devise) lab experiments, collect and analyze data from physical and simulated test systems to solve technical problems.
- Professional development – Graduates have knowledge of contemporarily professional and societal issues and can engage in activities that will promote lifelong learning and advancement throughout their engineering career and other chosen profession.
- Communications. _graduates can organize ideas, and can deliver oral presentations to peers and industrial supervisors using the latest presentations technologies. Graduates can write well-organized and accurate reports, including appropriate citations.
- Design – Graduates can design and implement an optimized component, system or process
- to meet or exceed a set of performance specifications within realistic constraints.
- Innovation – Graduates can look at technological challenges in new ways and develop innovative solutions.
- Multidisciplinary teamwork – Graduates can recognize the multifaceted nature of technical problems and can apply
- Other areas of knowledge to the solution. Graduates can assemble and participate on teams that require diverse technical expertise to solve complex engineering problems.
