The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

Course Overview

The Certificate in Information Technology (CIT) is designed to educate students and help them understand the theoretical and practical application of Information communication and technologies. CIT is a day, evening and weekend Program that targets A’ Level leavers and Certificate holders and other Professionals who would wish to advance their skills in ICT (Information Communications Technology) skills needed in the current digital age. The learners will be introduced to basic principles of software and hardware applications particularly in the various knowledge areas that include but not limited to networking, database systems, computer troubleshooting and maintenance.


Course Objectives

  • To develop professionals with theoretical and practical skills in Information Technology;
  • To strengthen capacity and institutional building in tertiary institutions, the private and public sector;
  • To prepare students to undertake further studies in related fields with an aim of ICT standards

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme, students will be able to;

  • Apply IT basic principles in solving challenges like software installations , setting-up simple computer network for business organizations
  • Troubleshoot, repair and perform general maintenance of computers and other related computer peripheral devices.
  • Learn Software Testing and Automation basics from a professional trainer from your own desk.
  • Asses and analyze the IT environment and make recommendation to the clients regarding their IT Systems.

Award / Certification

The institution’s Academic Board, upon satisfaction that the standard required under relevant regulations for the award of a Certificate in Information Technology has been attained by the Candidate in the instruction examinations shall be recommended for the award of a Certificate in Information Technology.

Course Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Direct Entry: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five (5) passes and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least one principal pass and two subsidiary passes or its Equivalent
  • Mature Age Entry: Mature Age Entrance Examinations Certificate awarded to a person aged at least 25 years and has passed with at least 50% marks. For purposes of admission, the Mature Age Entrance Certificate shall be valid for no more than two years. The mature age entry examinations centre must have been authorized by NCHE.
  • Certificate Entry: A certificate in any related field of study or its equivalent from a recognized institution,
    The National Council shall determine qualifications equivalent to Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) as for Higher Education in consultation with the Uganda National Examinations Board.
