The primary objective of the Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS) degree programme is to train students as information systems specialists in a business organisation context. The BIS will equip students with knowledge and skills for planning, modeling and applying ICT to meet an organization‘s business requirements that are generally depicted from the organization‘s stakeholders,
events and products.
BIS covers both business and information technology sub-jects. The business subjects provide business practice framework for information
systems development, whilst the information technology subjects provide the knowledge and technical skills required to build business information systems.
The BIS programme aims to provide students with the concepts, analytical and developmental skills required for the information systems that underpin business computer systems and electronic commerce. The core units provide a founda-tion in the information systems areas of programming, system design, database, and project management.
Objectives
The objectives of the Bachelor of Information Systems programme are:
1. To build human resource capacity in information systems discipline in both the public and private sectors, especially in universities;
2. To generate a pool of highly qualified candidates for the M.Sc. in Infor-mation Systems Degree Programme;
3. To address the increasing demand for information systems training at bachelor’s degree level.
4. To develop professionals with theoretical and practical skills in the ICT sector.
Information systems specialists focus on integrating information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of
businesses and other enterprises, enabling them to achieve their objectives in an effective, efficient way. This discipline’s perspective on information technology emphasizes information, and views technology as an instrument for generating, processing, and distributing information
Professionals in the discipline are primarily concerned with the information that computer systems can provide to aid an enterprise in defining and achieving its goals, and the processes that an enterprise can implement or improve using information technology
