The need to implement CBET in the BTVET institutions which requires a Competence-Based Curricula has led to the harmonization of curricula which were being offered by different institutions under different names yet producing graduates for the same labour market. It is also observed that for the economic development of this country, this syllabus has to be harmonized and assessed as there is demand for such graduates in the labour market to deal with the rising population and changing societal needs.
Since there are also graduates from the certificate level, there is need to have this programme to provide an opportunity to add on their competences and clear upward progression for the graduates of certificate
Entry Requirements A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the National Diploma in Fashion Design on meeting any of the following minimum qualifications:
Advanced Level Entry Scheme At least One Principal Pass in either Technical Drawing or Fine art or any other subject combination but with the applicant’s interest obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Examinations (UACE) or its equivalent.
Certificate Entry Scheme Holders of Advanced or National Certificate or its equivalent from a recognized Institution in;
(a) Fashion Design
(b) Interior Design
(c) Painting and decorating
(d) Ceramics
(e) Shoemaking and Leather Tannery
The graduates of the National Diploma in Fashion Design may opt to further their skills and education by joining to offer a;
A learner who scores at least 2.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in all the modules of the programme should be awarded a classified “National Diploma in Fashion Design” by the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB).
A learner who attains less than 2.0 GPs in some modules even after three attempts of retaking such modules but has achieved to score 2.0 CGPA and above, shall be awarded with an unclassified “Probationary National Diploma in Fashion Design’’ by the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB). The Probationary National Diploma shall not be used for upgrading purposes but for employment since the learner will have attained some useful competences and skills required for doing work.
UBTEB shall provide learners with a statement of results for Semester One and Semester Two of first year of study indicating the grades obtained in each module irrespective of the performance. This is to cater for accepted early exiting learners after their first year of study

(2) Estimate, Measure, and Cost Quantities of Materials required and labour
(3) Prepare Reports, Budgets and Operation Plans
(4) Ensure Safety, Health, Security and Welfare of Workers and Community as Well as, Work studios and machines
