The changes in the global, regional and local policies and the technological advancements involved have made it imperative for the majority of Ugandans today to respond effectively to the challenges of development and modernization. This however cannot be achieved without a sound knowledge of development issues to address the problems of underdevelopment that are found in Uganda. A Diploma in Development Studies probes into the problem of underdevelopment looks at the global environment and provides thoughtful solutions for sustainable development.
A Diploma in Development Studies is a multidisciplinary program that borrows widely from the economic, social, political, environment and cultural backgrounds, so as to meet the current and future needs of Ugandans in particular, and the world at large. Graduates of Development Studies are expected to obtain placements in government, development non-governmental organizations, either internationally or in Uganda and the private sector.
Today there are very few skilled manpower especially in development work. The students of this course will be provided with skills, knowledge and the right attitudes that will enable them to contribute to the social, political and economic transformation of the disadvantaged communities in Uganda and the outside world.
NOTE:
A diploma in Development Studies will take two years based on a semester system, leading to the award of a diploma in development studies. It strongly emphasizes policy concretization and formulation at national, regional and local levels, but with critical analysis of global issues.

At least five (5) passes at “O” level (UCE) or its equivalent and one relevant principle and two subsidiary passes obtained at the same sitting at “A” level (UACE) or its equivalent or a post “O” level diploma / certificate.
