The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

Introduction

Public Administration deals with implementation of public policy programmes and the delivery of public services whereas public management involves policy formulation for public services. Thus, public management is more inclined to the political domain of public policy. It is important to acknowledge that the administration sector is expanding continuously, which makes it more complex. Because of this, there is need to study and appreciate the complex contemporary issues in public administration if one is to address public affairs properly. This course is designed for public sector management.

Rationale for the course

The Public Administration and Management curriculum is designed to provide students with strong theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of public administration and management.

Course Objectives

  • To enable a student acquire theoretical knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in the field of public administration and management.
  • To enable students acquire skills and ability to critically analyze issues pertaining to the socio-economic and political phenomena in society and devise solutions to the problems that face society.
  • To enable students gain virtues of self-motivation and innovativeness necessary for proper, responsive and accountable utilization of public resources in the delivery of goods and services for the benefit and development of the country.

Note:
The Bachelor of Public Administration and Management is a three year course, based on a semester system, leading to the award of Public Administration and Management. It strongly emphasizes policy concretization and formulation at national, regional and local levels, but with critical analysis of global issues.

Course Entry Requirements

At least five (5) passes at “O” level (UCE) or its equivalent and two relevant principle passes at “A” level (UACE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.

A post “O” level diploma or certificate with at least two years relevant experience in the desired field.
