Occupational Therapists work with people who are physically or mentally disabled and those suffering from chronic illnesses. They use activities as a means of rehabilitating such people to full independence. An Occupational therapist works in hospital settings, in the community and in psychiatric services.
The general objective of this diploma is to give special training to those who work with people with physical and Mental disabilities, and those suffering from chronic diseases in their homes/hospitals and facilitate the integration of rehabilitation care within their environment.
At the completion of the Diploma Programme, the learner will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to:
1. Integrate and use the holistic approach in resolving health problems of individuals and groups as regards to Occupational Therapy
2. Conduct relevant scientific research in Occupational Therapy and continuously improve their skills and knowledge using recent advances in their practice and participating in continuing professional development programmes
3. Liaise and co-ordinate with other health professionals an relevant agencies for the better delivery or rehabilitation services
4. Promote positive attitude of individuals and communities towards full
participation of people with disabilities
5. Train other health workers, families and communities in the basic management of disability • Manage Occupational Therapy services and departments
6. Observe the professional codes of ethics
2 principal passes, one must be in Biology.
Relevant subjects include; Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture, Geography, Economics.
In addition one should possess 5 credit passes in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English in "O" level subjects.
