The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

This two year programme has been designed with an emphasis on the practical application of Accounting and Finance knowledge to the commercial work place. It is intended for participants wishing to gain a solid foundation in the major components of the Accounting and Finance discipline and to allow them develop their financial literacy skills. The programme has been designed to satisfy the specifications of accounting and finance with regard to the generic knowledge and requirements providing players in accounting and finance services at the lower levels. The accounting and finance sector is growing and there is growing gap in the manpower requirements at such levels.

Therefore, students who successfully complete this Diploma Programme will have a good understanding of accounting and finance. The products of the programme will in effect counter the rapid increase in the demand for trained personnel in accounting and finance sector. Graduates of this Programme also act as catchments for degrees in accounting and finance besides being suitable for those aspiring to work or already working in the following types of roles: basic bookkeeping, trainee accountant in a commercial organisation or accounting and finance practice or accounts/finance clerk in public sector.

Course Entry Requirements

Admission to the first year

Admission into the first year is through any of the following avenues:

  1. Direct entry;
  2. Certificate Holders Scheme;

1) Direct entry

A candidate must have:

  1. Sat the U.C.E. examination (or equivalent) and obtained at least five (5) passes; and
  2. Obtained at least one (1) principal level pass and two (2) subsidiaries at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (U.C.A.E.) obtained at the same sitting.

The Weighting System is as follows:

Relevant Third best done of All A’ level Subjects

Desirable General Paper

Others All Others

2) Certificate Holders scheme.

A candidate must hold a certificate in any discipline from a recognized institution
