In a bid to support education and empower local schools, the Insurance Training College (ITC) embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to give support to a secondary school in Uganda. The contribution aims to support secondary schools in Uganda and improve the quality of delivery and accessibility, one school at a time.
The beneficiary of this initiative has been Mackay Memorial College, a government-aided school located in Natete. The school, known for its dedication to providing quality education despite limited resources, caters to many students from low-income backgrounds.
ITC's support is motivated by a strong belief in the transforming power of education. Recognising the difficulties that Mackay College School is facing, ITC took the initiative to relieve some of the financial pressures and contribute to the improvement of the educational environment.
The funds provided through this initiative will be utilized to improve infrastructure, upgrade educational resources, and expand access to essential facilities at Mackay College. This investment will substantially benefit students by allowing them to study in a more suitable setting and improving their overall learning experience. For example, Mackay College has a classroom block with a sinking roof, which puts hundreds of students’ lives in danger. There is also no internet connectivity which is a limitation to accessing quality, up-to-date study material and information for both students and teachers.
Many schools such as Mackay Memorial College face various known challenges and it is up to us to either complain about the situation or try and do something about it. ITC has committed to doing whatever is within the organisation’s means to support schools in the community.
During the launch of the initiative, Saul Sseremba, the CEO/Principal at ITC called upon all ITC member institutions and other insurance sector players to support education in Uganda because quality education is at the core of national development and therefore investing in education is a way to secure our future as a nation.
“This is only the beginning of our efforts to support secondary education. More resources will be provided to professional development programmes, which will encourage a culture of continuous learning and provide educators with the tools they need to offer high-quality education,” he added.
The initiative by ITC represents the organisation’s dedication to corporate citizenship and generating a good social effect. ITC strives to contribute to the sustainable growth and development of individuals and communities by investing in the education of the next generation.
