Meet Ancel Bwire

Chief Executive Officer at Ancywax

For any business to survive in this economy characterized by cut throat competition, partnerships with other businesses that offer complimentary services is essential, as the saying goes, "No man is an Island" it is equally right to assert that "No Business is an Island". Businesses relay so much on the technical expertise (outsource expertise) of other businesses to drive their agenda forward. 

Ancel Bwire runs Ancywax a consultancy company that does Concept Development focusing on Media and Marketing. We caught up with him in the bid to understand a little more about what he does and why he does it. This is what we asked.

Who is Ancel Bwire

Am the CEO of Ancywax. Been so for the last 3 years though founded the company in 2003. Am a competent person when it comes to Media. Marketing Consultancy which are the core services that we offer albeit with our creative solutions.

Describe your typical day ?

Wake up at 4am, read news and watch Bloomberg TV until 6am. Begin working at 7am with responding to emails and making calls. Also have meetings, prepare for field work, events or any other activities that need me to be out of office. I work till 4pm where I head home and prepare for exercise at 5pm. I return home at 7pm where I unwind till 10pm when I go sleep.

Why did you choose that career path?

Wanted to address the creativity aspect for businesses in Uganda which is missing.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities at work?

Coordinate campaigns, talk and follow up with clients, Identify markets and partners who can work with us, Budget allocation

Any Challenges? 

Getting talented team players, ensuring clients commit to budgets are some of the challenges

What particular skills do you bring to your workplace ?

Communication, Marketing , Sales and Punctuality

What's cool about your job ? 

Interacting with top brands day in Uganda and around the world on a daily business

What's not cool about your job ?

Being told what to do by people who dont know much about the industry

How did you get your current job ?

Started the Company in 2014

What subjects did you take in school and how have they influenced your career path (Share how they are relevant in your day to day work) ?

Economics, Fine Art, Entrepreneurship, English all help me in management while History and Political Science give me leadership experiences. Mathematics also helps me calculate numbers and read statistics

What is your Education to date?

Bachelor of Science In Information Technology dropout from Makerere University

What aspects of your Education System have proven most important for your job?

I learnt how to be a good leader, how to research and as well as how to deal with people from all walks of life during my days in school

What trends are you seeing in your career field ?

Mobile optimization of services, paperless solutions are increasing as well as video on demand surging

What are the most important personal characteristics required for the job?

Research, Punctuality, Discipline and Commitment

Which key people influenced your career direction ?

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Evans Spiegel and my grandfather John David Ochino

What is your dream job?

Being the chairman of my own holding company running a billion dollar empire

What have been the most rewarding events in your career so far?

Getting my 1st client, registering the client, acquiring partners and tripling revenue in justone year

As a student, how did you cope up with the pressure to succeed / excel in class?

I just concentrated on reading books and not cramming

What advise would you give someone considering this job?

Start early and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. It will pay off eventually.

What outside class activities did you engage in that have proved beneficial on your career path ?

Playing football, debating, socializing with people of different areas

What kind of work experience would provide a good background for this position?

Experience in Marketing for at least 3 years
