The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

This is a two and a half years program of study for the direct entry. This certificate program is under the Department of Nursing and Midwifery which is an autonomous entity under the School of Health Sciences. The program incorporates and emphasizes general nursing, midwifery, community health, management, leadership, and research.

The Aim of the program: To train skilled Enrolled Nurse who is able to provide promotive, curative and rehabilitative services in the minimum health care package at all levels of health care.

Expected Learning Outcome of the program

At the end of the course, the Enrolled Nurse should be able to:-

  1. Identify the patients physical  illnesses and their related psychological and sociological factors
  2. Provide total curative, Preventive Medical/Nursing care
  3. Carry  out  practical procedures
  4. Display professional ability, knowledge, skills and attitudes in patient care
  5. Maintain interpersonal relationship with her co-workers and other health workers

Work independently and safely in the ward/community.

Course Entry Requirements

Admission to the enrolled nursing Course

Eligibility criteria: An applicant shall be' considered eligible for admission to the Enrolled Nursing course if he or she is of the age between 17 and 25 years and fulfills the entry requirements.

Entry requirements: The minimum educational standard for admission to Enrolled Nursing Course shall be the Uganda Certificate of Education - UCE – (Ordinary Level certificate) or its equivalent with at least five (5) passes, and these include:

  • English Language
  • Biology
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry and
  • Physics

Admission Criteria:

Applicants for Nurse training at Enrolled Level must:

  • Have attained the required minimum educational standard not more than three [3] years before the date of application for admission
  • Pass an entry examination to the course
  • Satisfy the selection Panel at an interview
  • Conform to the standards of medical fitness required by the training authority a
  • Have attained the age of seventeen (17) years, to be accepted as eligible for training.
