The Relevance (Why the course is being taught)

Objectives:

Philosophy of Nursing Education at Bugema University:

The philosophy/organizing framework and learning outcomes of the BNS program are derived and consistent with the vision, mission and what Department of Nursing and Midwifery and its lecturers believe regards the teaching of nurses. Bugema University, emphasizes academic excellence through learner centered teaching, evidence based practice, creative inquiry, and student engagement. Professional success is promoted through lifelong learning, leadership, collaborative partnerships and service. At Bugema University we believe that true education fosters the restoration of the lost image of God in human beings. We believe that the role of a nurse is to provide care and God, the source of all healing and restoration, restores ones back to good health.

Course Entry Requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements

         1. Entry points are available for persons wishing to enter the BNS direct entry program:

  1. Uganda Certificate of Education (O Level) examination or its equivalent and obtained credits in at least with five subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English.
  2. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education  ( A Level ) examination or its equivalent and obtained a principal pass each in Biology and Chemistry and one other subsidiary pass.
  3. Holders of Kenya School of Certificate of Education
  • In order to be eligible for admission, a candidate must have sat and passed in one sitting: Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education examination with a mean grade of C+ (plus). Have obtained at least a C+ (plus) in each of the cluster subjects below:
  •  Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, OR,
  •  Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, English.

d. Holders of School Certificates Graded in Percentages and Average Points:

  • In order to be eligible for admission, a candidate whose final high school marks are graded in percentages and average point systems such as in the Sudan Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi and other foreign countries must have their grades first equated by Uganda National Examinations Board before seeking admission to pursue the BNS program at Bugema University.
  • In order to be eligible for admission, such a candidate must have sat and passed in one sitting the O Level (UCE) examinations and obtained at least 55% or Credit 5 in the following science subjects or their equivalents: Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and   English.

2.  O Level graduate from foreign countries qualified to enter the BNS program will undergo a one year   “Bridging Program.” 

3.  For international applicants without A Level and who have not done physics at the ordinary level, they can also enrol in the BNS program after successful completion of the science bridging program including physics courses at Bugema University      

4.  Must have been in school or engaged in productive work with evidence of employment or school certificate within 3 years at the time of application for admission at Bugema University School.

5.  Must present a certificate of physical fitness from an accredited health agency and or duly practicing physician ( government / private )

6.  Must pass and satisfy the panel of interviewers from the School of Nursing & Midwifery.

7.  Must have a minimum/average pass of the entrance examination administered by the Department of nursing and Midwifery.
